Too Busy to Exercise? Top Tips to Increasing Your Daily Physical Activity – Lauren Turner AEP

We all lead busy lives and sometimes it can be hard to find time to set aside to participate in physical activities. When thinking about exercise or physical activity, majority of us visualise partaking in an exercise program whether it be gym or home- based, walking / running around the block or even participating in sport. However, increasing your physical activity does not require you to complete long and time consuming exercise programs/activities which can sometimes be difficult to incorporate into busy lifestyles. Here are some simple and easy tricks that we can implement into our daily lives to increase our physical activity.

  1. Incidental activities

Incidental activities is one major way we can improve our physical fitness without having a huge impact on our daily lives. They are small little tasks that are performed regularly throughout the day. Some examples of these may be parking your car a few streets away from your destination and walking the rest of the way; or taking the stairs as opposed to the elevator and even walking around the house when talking on the phone.

  1. Exercising at work

Particularly if you have a sedentary job where the majority of your day is spent sitting down, completing some basic exercises that can be done at your desk can be a great way to boost your physical activity without taking much time out of your work day.   1. Exercising socially

This can be a great idea of those who do enjoy exercising in a group or find it hard to motivate themselves to exercise alone. Next time you have a social event with friends or family, think about going for a walk around the park before having your picnic or going out for a social activities such as golf, tennis, bowling or laser skirmish.
