Sometimes it is hard to stay on track to achieve our health and lifestyle goals when going away for the holidays. Sleep-ins and “vegging out” can be enticing and it can be all too easy to over indulge in these luxuries. While it is important to unwind, there are some simple options that can help us remain active during our time away.
1. Walking Trails and National Parks
Before visiting your holiday destination, you can search the local walking trails and national parks around the area on the respective council website. Information will be provided to you on the trail’s scenic highlights, the level of difficulty and distance, a map of the surrounding area and things that you need to be aware of before completing the trail. This is a great option for those who want to explore and enjoy the great outdoors during their time away.
2. Parkrun Australia
Parkrun is a free for all ages. This event consists of a 5km course where participants can choose to either walk, jog or run. Participants who register online are able to keep a record of their results, with past run times uploaded onto a personal online profile using a barcode which can be scanned after each event. Registration is free and participants can attend any event in any town/city. There are over 90 Park runs held every Saturday around Queensland alone at local parklands. 3. Body Weighted Exercise
If walking or running is not your style, there are some basic strength exercises that you can complete without even leaving the room. Body weighted exercises are great in improving strength without the need for equipment, which is ideal when travelling. Here are just some examples of body weighted exercises:
– Push ups
– Calf Raises
