In today’s society children are become more sedentary in their lifestyle as they become more involved with technology. However, during early stages of life, our muscles, bones and joint structures are still developing. Bad habits at an early stage in life may lead to health complications later in life. This is why it is so important to promote healthy childhood development through fitness and wellbeing by living an active lifestyle.
Exercise can come in all different forms whether it be dance, soccer, netball or gymnastics. According to the ACSM guidelines, it is recommended that children participate in moderate to vigorous exercise daily for 60 or more minutes. Through different types of exercise children can improve;
– Strength and endurance
– Balance and proprioception
– Motor learning and planning
– Postural control
Improvements in these areas see children at lower risk of injury and developing some chronic conditions later in life.
