With the imminent commencement of the Adapted Physical Activity pilot program, it is great to look back at how far we’ve come since the concept idea several months ago. The APA program has been designed for children ages 3-15 years who due to impairment, disability or developmental delay, find it difficult to participate in other movement options and sports. The program is built around game based activities to not only develop movement skills, but also enhance other health parameters such as cardiorespiratory fitness or strength. It is a very exciting time and having spoken to a couple of parents and carers in the past few weeks, it seems to have really filled a gap in the current supports. With other health practitioners having also shown interest and excitement in the concept, it has really been a great opportunity to contemplate the program and the fact that it’s very rewarding to create movement opportunity for all ages, levels and abilities to enhance health and exercise enjoyment.
