With 7 weeks having passed since the start of 2016, I have already had my fair share of conversations and consults with those looking to enhance their health this year. One of the biggest challenges for those people who are not regular exercisers (or those that were and have been a bit inconsistent) is committing to a habit of healthy exercise and sticking with it. Given the various commitments that we all have, this can be a very difficult thing to achieve.
Priority would be the word I would most regularly use with those that ask for my advice when it comes to their exercise commitment. You must prioritise movement into your week. Write it in your diary, put a post-it on your alarm clock, cook your dinners on a Sunday so you have afforded yourself the time through the week to achieve your movement goals and therefore your health goals. If you can commit to health the way you commit to your favourite TV show or shopping then creating a positive habit is all you have left to do. After that you will naturally find ways to increase your movement and the likelihood of subsequent health benefits.
