There are many research papers out there that advocate the use of some games that have been seen to stave off dementia, strengthen critical thinking skills and to promote general brain health. The number and different options out there for Brain games or brain training has increased. There are now online games, Wii games and PlayStation or video games that have been developed for improving an individual’s brain fitness. Or there is the more traditional forms such as crossword puzzles, word problems and Sudoku’s.
However in the more than 50 studies that have been completed with humans being the subject of brain training, these studies show improvements for the short term of the study but not the lifelong benefit’s. This does not mean that there are no benefits at all from participating in brain game activities as seen in a study conducted at the Pennsylvania state university in America shows that there can be long lasting improvement’s in daily life. This is still an emerging area of research and there will more finding in the future.
